A Conservative politician expected to re-contest the 2015 general election has been criticised for their treatment of a person with autism, who it is claimed they tried to deny free speech.
Guto Bebb, who is the MP for Aberconwy in North Wales, has been criticised for saying that a person diagnosed with Asperger syndrome should not post online if they have “mental health” issues.
Mary Wimbury is the Labour coalition’s general election candidate for Aberconwy. “This lack of courtesy and respect towards constituents is clearly an inappropriate way for any MP to behave,” she said. “He should think long and hard about his future behaviour.”
Jonathan Bishop is an Internet trolling authority who is also an autism technology expert. “We all say stupid things on the Internet and in a democracy that should be a right,” he said. “Being autistic is a personality type that means a person holds strong opinions and is willing to argue them.
“People should not feel threatened by autistic people, as they are often not trying to change other’s opinions, and if people cannot understand another person’s point of view without feeling the need to give up their own, it is them with the issues!“
